CROATIAN WINES ARE VERY GOOD.

Croatia is really known for their quality selection of different wines. And if you choose to have wines as your alcoholic beverage on your gulet cruise, you won’t have a difficult time finding a good and quality wine.

Croatia has three main wine regions:

• The eastern continental region,
• The western continental region,
• Coastal region.

The wine’s character varies between these regions because the climate in these regions is very different. By the different styles of wines best to differ the wines is:

• In the north coastal region (Istria) you have a lot of sunny days so the wines are drier with a more strong tone. Most of them are white wines. They are very similar to Italian style wines and the most distinctive are Malvasia, Sauvignon, Žlahtina.

• In the southern coastal region (Dalmatia) the wines vary a lot because of the microclimates and harsh nature. But here you can find some of the finest wines in Croatia. The Dalmatian sortes of wines are mostly reds. The most distinctive are Dingač, Pošip, and Plavac Mali.

• In the continental region of Croatia where the rain is more present, you can find more white wines that are more fruity and also sweet. They can be often compared to Austrian, Slovenian, and Hungarian wines. The most distinctive are Graševina and Frankovka.

This is only a small mention of good wines in Croatia and if you are a real wine lover you will have a tough time finding a really bad wine.

There is a large variety of good Croatian wines and in general, winemaking is in Croatia very popular amongst the locals.

So if you meet a local, it is a good chance he is making his own wine. And if you are lucky he will invite you in his private wine cellar. Croatians are very open and outgoing so you won’t have a bad time. They have a lot of stories to tell.

You can also ask your captain on your gulet and he will suggest you different quality wines. On your stops, you will find a lot of beverage shops where you can buy some of the local wines and take them on your gulet.
