INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT HALKI:

  1. Halki means copper and got the name after the mines that were once there in Ancient times.
  2. It has only 28 square meters and approximately 330 inhabitants.
  3. Named by UNESCO as an island of peace and friendship.
  4. Many Halkiots moved to Tarpon Springs where they established Greek-American community and from there support the island

  • Wander around the alleys

During your island hopping let yourself enjoy those colorful pallets of houses and get lost among charming streets. Sit down in many tavernas and try their local specialties that will wake up all your tastebuds. The most famous dish is their “Halkidika makaronia”. It’s homemade pasta, laid down on the sun to dry and prepared with onion. After lunch makes sure to stop for a while at Townhall and take a look at the splendid Clock Tower.

  • Visit the “Horio”

It is on the hill 2,5km walking distance from the harbor and was the old capital of the island. From the church, you can follow the path to the Castle of Knights. These fascinating ruins from 15 century still stand there and from there you can enjoy the view of all Karpathian sea. Absolutely magical!

  • Spend your day at the beach

You can enjoy yourself in a small bay Kania with the taverna in front of the sea and try their appetizing food. If you are feeling adventurous try scuba diving there or just indulge yourself in the sun and some cocktails.

We recommend visiting Ftenagia beach where you can swim in the crystal clear sea. Those are the moments to remember!
