Can we pay with credit cards on Turkish gulets?
No, you can’t.
Unfortunately, as on all gulets, also on Turkish ones, the only payment method is cash. The gulets don’t have the credit card terminals to accept credit cards so they operate only with cash.
Generally in Turkey, the most common method of payment is cash.
The owner needs cash to pay the expenses encountered during the cruise. Most of the time they are buying goods for cruising in the local markets and local providers, where only cash is acceptable.
Apart from this, having cash gives them the opportunity to easier and more accurate control of the expenses. At the beginning of your cruise, they have a certain amount of cash in the budget and it gives them a better overview of spending it carefully.
In case your arrangement for your cruise is A.P.A. (Advance Provisional Allowance), you pay everything in advance. In the case of other agreements, the cost for food and drinks need to be paid in cash on the embarkation day.
Also, the extras (water sports or taxes for private marinas) need to be paid in cash while the costs of the main ports are already charged in your charter fee.
CURRENCY
In Turkey, they use Turkish Lira as a currency.
Check your currency converter before you arrive. It is better to exchange your money in Turkey. The exchange rates are usually better inside the country as outside.
In case you run out of cash, there are a lot of ATM machines all around. They are everywhere, especially in more touristic places.
Through your bank, you can find a partner bank for your home bank in Turkey and avoid the provision as well.
In some bigger stores or cities, they will accept euros or dollars as well, although officially is not allowed. But if you plan to shop or dine in smaller restaurants you will need Turkish liras to pay the bill.
