Where do gulets sail? In open water or near shore?
This is why in most cruises you will sail near the coast. And in our opinion it is more enjoyable.
Gulets most of the time stay close to the shore and enter “open waters” just when jumping from one island to another and when it is perfectly safe. We could use a therm gulets are more for “island hopping”.
Captain always avoids open seas to avoid any discomfort or sea sickness.
Gulets are firstly an enjoyable boat not built for heavy sailing. Their primary goal is to get you great to swimming spots, exploring nice bays and islands, and not for heavy sports and super sailing in open seas.
There are exceptions to this rule, but they are rare and should be checked with your sales advisor if you are interested in longer cruises, sailing, open seas….
SAILING WITH A GULET
A word about sailing as well. Most of the gulets have sails but are there more for taking pictures then for some serious sports. 90% of the time you will cruise on a motor. Some captains will put on sails just for a show and some gulets don’t even have a sail.
But if you have a strong wish to have a sailing experience with a gulet, mention it to your sales representative and he will advise you with some options on sailing gulets. In general, in Turkey, there is a bigger option of gulets that can sail and in recent years also in Croatia.
