Croatia is a very well known country with its good food and drinks. Croatian food is a mixture of Turkish, Italian, Hungarian, and some other places as well. That is what makes it so special.
The good part is also that different parts of Croatia are famous for something else.
So when you are in:
- Istra, try world recognizable truffle,
- Ston, delicious oysters,
- Mljet, one and only lobsters,

But even if you are not so fond of fish or seafood, you will not stay hungry. Croatia is very well known, also as a delicious meat country. You like veal, pork or turkey, you will be surprised how delicious it can be prepared.

- For sure Peka
It is actually the way of cooking food. It must be in a steel lid and under burning wood. It gives a unique taste to any food you cook. Either is a fish or meat. It is worth trying…
- Risotto
It takes half a day to make it right. It should be veal based with adding of other types of meats as well. Garnished with local cheeses from Pag, your mouth will be watering.
And if you are a fan of seafood you must try Black Risotto. It does have an intense seafood taste, based on fresh squid, but really delicious. It is a traditional plate that you will find everywhere but they make it the best in local small restaurants.
- One and only Brodet
Don’t go home without trying this food. It is a seafood dish, where they cook at least 3 different types of fish. They add a lot of vegetables and polenta on the side and it became one of the best Croatian dishes.
- Selections of cheeses
Depending on which part of Croatia you are, you will always find some homemade cheese. Some are more and some less intensive. But all are worth trying. Škripavac cheese is just one of them not to miss.
